Stuffy nose goes by different terms: Congested nose, clogged nose, or even nasal congestion. However, runny nose is not a synonym of stuffy nose. They refer to different conditions.

- THREE teaspoons of dried peppermint
- A small bowl of boiling water
- Heat a small quantity of water until it boils
- Place the boiling water in a small bowl
- Mix in three teaspoons each of dried thyme and dried peppermint to the small bowl of boiling water
- Cover your head with a thick towel and tilt your face over the bowl
- Maintain a distance of 8 to 10 inches from the water
- Gradually inhale and exhale for 10 minutes
Proportion of Daily Use: TWO to THREE times
3. Inhale Eucalyptus Aroma
This home remedy is especially useful when the stuffy nose results from nasal blockage. Inhaling the aroma of eucalyptus oil regularly, helps clear the sensation.
- Pour a small quantity of boiled water into a bowl.
- Add a few drops of eucalyptus oil to the boiled water
- Inhale the aroma for 15 minutes
Alternate process: If eucalyptus oil is unavailable, you could use peppermint oil. Follow the exact same process outlined above.
4. Hot Soup
The appeal of this remedy is that you do not have to use a specific set of ingredients. Any of your favorite soups would do—as long as it is hot. The preferable soups known to have more effect are lentil soup, chicken soup, and vegetable soup.
Proportion of Daily Use: Have it TWO to THREE times daily

5. Maintain a Diet
Adjusting your diet to include food that help get rid of stuffy nose is ideal when you are down with the condition. However, it should be within the purview of your healthy wellbeing.

With chicken soup, you can take as much as you want. However, if you are a vegetarian, you could opt to take vegetable soup instead. In any case, it is recommended that you add enough spices like garlic and ginger.

- Add lemon juice
Proportion of Daily Use: THREE to FOUR cups/small bowls
Note: Eating chicken soup routinely is a well-known home remedy for eliminating stuffy nose. In addition to spices like garlic and ginger, add pepper. They all serve the same function of opening up the blocked nasal entries for clear breathing.
8. Mustard Oil
Mustard oil derived from mustard seed is also a potent home remedy for stuffy nose. The preferred application of mustard oil for clearing stuffy nose is through the nares.
- Place some mustard oil on your fingers
- Insert your fingers with the mustard oil into your nostrils

Alternate Process: You may also use mustard oil while preparing some dishes
Honey has an avalanche of health benefits. Amongst these is its ability to eliminate stuffy nose. Preferred route of intake is oral ingestion.
- Take TWO teaspoons of honey
- To get better results, mix TWO to THREE tablespoons of honey with a glass of warm water

Alternate Process: You can also mix honey and milk for effective removal of stuffy nose
10. Neti Pot
The neti pot represents a unique approach to clearing a congested nose. The basic premise of usage of this tool is to clear nasal secretions by dislodging the blockage. Furthermore, the intention is to flush out bodily fluid and polluting influence that are present in your nasal airways.
- Do not use this home remedy option if you suspect that you have influenza
- Do not use this home remedy option without any restorative expert
- ONE teaspoon of salt
- A glass of warm water
- A neti pot
Firstly, you should prepare a salt-water (saline) arrangement. You should do this by adding a teaspoon of salt to a glass of warm water.
With the saline arrangement ready and the neti pot available. Follow the steps below:
- Pour the saline arrangement into the neti pot.

Alternate tools: You may use another form of irrigation device.
- Endeavor to use distilled or previously boiled water for nasal irrigation.
- Ensure that you thoroughly wash the irrigation device used after each use.
Basil is very effective for eliminating stuffy nose. In fact, regular use of basil is known to be effective for management for virtually all forms of nasal problems.
Ingredient: Basil leaves
Process: Chew three or four leaves twice daily—in the morning and in the evening.
Alternate Process: Alternatively, you could prepare a tea with the basil leaves for better results.
Note: For best results, morning intake of basil should be before breakfast, and evening intake should be immediately before going to bed.
12. Fenugreek Seeds
The route of action of fenugreek seeds is such that it opens up the sinus cavities. In addition, it thins the mucus. By thinning thick bodily fluid in the nasal airways and reducing the swelling in the blood vessels, the fenugreek arrangement ensures maximal clearing of your nasal section.
- Fenugreek seeds
- A glass of normal drinking water
- Blend some fenugreek seeds
- Add them to a glass of drinking water
- Heat the water (with the blended fenugreek seeds) for a few minutes, then turn off the heat
- Strain the liquid then drink
Proportion of Daily Use: Repeated a few times every day until you experience complete easing of your stuffy nose
Alternate Process: Alternatively, you can use fenugreek seeds as the main ingredient for a hot soup, akin to a garlic soup. You can then consume the hot fenugreek soup to eliminate your stuffy nose.
13. Herbal Tea
Aside its importance in the management of several health problems, herbal tea is an essential home remedy for stuffy nose.
Consumable herbs popularly used for this purpose include blackberry, chamomile, and peppermint. Prepare your regular tea with these herbs and drink the tea regularly. Slowly but eventually, the habit of drinking herbal tea regularly will get rid of your stuffy nose problem with very little possibility of recurrence.
Furthermore, you may consider including rosemary leaves and ginger in your herbal tea for better results in clearing your stuffy nose.

19. Peppermint Tea
Peppermint helps thin mucus and clear up nasal passages owing to its rich composition of menthol.

- Finally, place the thumbs of both hands on either of your cheek bones. Massage in outward circles and repeat for 20 to 35 seconds
- Repeat the entire process (I, II, and III) for FOUR to FIVE times until you notice relief from the sinuses pressure
Another 6 Chinese Methods for Stuffy Nose
Soak the cotton in the hot water for a while and wring it out. Then apply the hot dry cotton to your ears for 10 minutes. After that, nasal congestion will be relieved when sleep.
2. Ginger water

The method of using Fructus Xanthii for stuffy nose is easy. Add 3~6g Fructus Xanthii and water into a pot, turn on the fire and boil for 20 minutes. Drink the water 2 times a day. If a child use it, please drink less.
Lotusroot has the function of skin mucosal contraction and anti-inflammatory. So it is very good for nasal congestion. You can use a piece of lotusroot and mash it. Using a cotton swab to dip the liquid of lotusroot and apply in the nostrils.
Get 5 scallion then remove the green part and keep the white part. Add it and some water to a pot. Turn on the fire until the water is boiling then turn the stove to low temperature and boil for 3 minutes. Add some white sugar if you like. Drinking that water is help for relieving nasal congestion.
6. Sesame oil
Before apply the sesame oil in the nostrils, you need to blow your nose. Using a cotton swab to dip the sesame oil and apply in the nostrils. Blow your nose lightly if necessary. Then using another cotton swab to dip honey and apply in the nostrils too. This method is very useful after I try.
